USDA Law Changes & Shipping of Puppies:
USDA Law Changes and how it is affecting dog breeders across the United States: The federal government, USDA branch, has passed a new law effective November 18, 2013, that will change the dog breeding industry. If a breeder has five or more intact breeding females and ships puppies sight unseen to the consumer (via air, vehicle, whatever), the USDA requires a federal kennel inspection. This new law is to protect you, the consumer! It is amazing to realize that more than half of the States DO NOT have any kennel inspection program in place. Meaning... no uniform guidelines or legal authority to tell a breeder to clean up their facility and take better care of their animals (other than perhaps local law enforcement following up on a complaint). A breeder has two options, the first is to NOT be inspected and have you come to their home to pickup the puppy. The other option is to be USDA licensed. The breeder must pass the USDA inspection and be issued a license.
A breeder with five or more intact females must be USDA licensed to ship a puppy to you without you seeing it in person first.
Gentle Giant Newfoundlands is approved to ship puppies to you by the USDA.
You are, of course, always welcome to meet the furry family and pickup in person.
